Originally a small market stall in Central Otago supporting local producers, The Kiwi Artisan Co came to life off the back of Covid. Curating high-quality, locally made goods to share with Kiwi foodies, Dave Thorne, founder of The Kiwi Artisan Co discovered his artisan platters were-lacking that special something.
Manuka Smoked Olives were an inspired lockdown creation. With plenty of time and a spare home-smoker, Dave began experimenting with various goods from nuts, tofu and of course olives. The olives are drained and dried, then cold smoked for 4 hours with Manuka wood chip and then vacuum packed in extra virgin olive oil.
Dave quickly set about building a small team of passionate foodies – based between Queenstown, Cardrona and Wanaka – to help him get the business off the ground.
Olives are the perfect partner for smoking. Biting into these small stone fruit, you’ll discover the layers of flavours, with the finishing hit of a rich, meaty, smokey flavour.
The Kiwi Artisan Co hope to continuously foster the talented artisan presence within New Zealand and have since added manuka smoked wild venison salami and black truffle olive oil to their own list of products.
