Meet The Maker #2: Six Barrel Soda Co



On a mission to shake up a flat soft drink market with experimental flavours and a new level of quality.


Pals since the 90's, Joe & Mike have shared years of questionable fashion choices and ridiculous business plans. After some dodgy batches and accidental fermentation they perfected syrups for cocktails and sodas in their Wellington dive bar, and formed Six Barrel Soda Co in 2012.  

Using a beat-up soda stream to make drinks. Early customers loved it and now Six Barrel Soda Co soda syrups and bottled sodas are being used to make wonderful drinks all over the place. Six Barrel Soda is an independent Wellington company, owned and run by original founders, Joe and Mike.


Each bottle of syrup makes 15 drinks, and is designed to be mixed with soda 1 part syrup to 5 parts soda. The range covers 12 classic and creative flavours.

Still hand-making soda syrups from scratch, on Luke’s Lane in Wellington, with natural ingredients, fresh fruit, organic fair trade cane sugar, filtered water and no fake or nasty stuff!

Our favourite cocktail recipe using the raspberry & lemon syrup;

Raspberry Collins


  • 30mL raspberry & lemon syrup 
  • 30mL gin⁣⁣
  • 10mL lemon juice⁣⁣
  • Soda 
  • Frozen raspberries⁣⁣
  • Lemon, Rosemary⁣⁣

Put syrup, gin and lemon juice in a glass. Add ice and raspberries. Top up with soda water and stir.⁣ Garnish with raspberries, lemon slices, and rosemary (or whatever herbs you have handy in the garden). Cheers!
